What do gardening companies spray for really thick lush lawns?

ive seen some lawn companies vans spray something once every 2-3 months on lawns in my neighbourhood. What do they spray??

I do evergreen lawn feed 2-3 times a year, but my lawn is nowhere near what theirs look like!!

I have a patchy, uneven lawn that has something like moss(?) filling the patches. How do I make this even (flat), lush and green !?
( I don’t want to pay £30 a pop for someone to spray something for 2 mins)

My parents use green thumb. I have no idea what they sprinkling on the lawn, I just cut it. Does seem to do the job though.

ETA; it cost about £80 a time I think, and it’s 3 times a year, a front lawn too.

If it works why quibble over the cost?

Because some people have less money to throw around than others?

I’d worry more about the effect on soil invertebrates and therefore on long term soil structure

They usually spray a feed and weed. They’ll also recommend scarification once a year to remove all the dead thatch and aeration to improve the soil.

I used Green Thumb for two years and gave up because the lawn still looked shit. But then I have two dogs and two teenage boys who were trying their utmost to destroy it!

After living abroad we returned home to a patchy moss ridden lawn. After much online research we found the chemicals needed to treat it were only available to licensed professionals.

The lawn man sprays moss killer and also fertiliser at the appropriate times and the lawn is now thick green and lovely. ( although still odd patches of moss).

If you pay for the treatment for a couple of years you will definitely see the difference.

Agree with going with a professional service for a couple of years. It’s not just what they spray - they scarify which gets rid of dead undergrowth, and aerate to help drainage. Then they use their weed & feed or whatever. I think ours comes 4 times per year. They have improved the lawn, which is amazing given the treatment two Labradors dish out. Couldn’t play bowls on it though.

They probably use a more robust grass variety in the first place, and then weed and feed. It is probably an insect desert. I'd rather the weeds that come with it as it is a sign of healthy soil.
