Hi all

I'm looking for inspiration for a pressie for my Dad's birthday. He's in his mid seventies and loves gardening and keeping his allotment.

In the past couple of years I've bought him;

A voucher for David Austin Roses
A delivery of multiple bulbs & seeds

In the past I've also bought him

A sundial
Nice pots
Hanging baskets
Garden ornaments

I'm really stuck for ideas for his gift this year and I know it's this hobby that makes him happy 😃

Do any of you lovely people have any ideas of something you would LOVE if you got it as a gift?

Thanks in advance..

A digital weather station thing? My grandfather (same age bracket, also a garden lover) enjoyed his!

A kneeler stool
Trug and towel/hand fork set, twine, secateurs.
Gardening gloves
Bird feeder and supplies
Bird bath

Top quality gardening gloves
Top quality secateurs (he probably has some already though)
Niwaki hori hori

User9088 · 01/02/2024 12:57

Like pp, I think a hori hori would be good if he doesn't have one

Houseplanter · 01/02/2024 12:58

A flask/ posh lunch bag for his allotment trips?

BlueRidgeMountains · 01/02/2024 13:02

A nice watering can
Gardening gloves
Fairy lights for garden
Sturdy kneeler
Wellington boots

BlueRidgeMountains · 01/02/2024 13:03

A nice gardening note book and pen.

As per PPs, Japanese gardening tools are lovely to use and also to look at

Gold leaf gift voucher. They have brilliant gardening gloves but he may want to choose his own

Not in the high store do really good garden markers. Or find personalised markers.

Thanks so much for all the ideas. This is so helpful!

I'd never heard of the hori hori tool and have ordered that now with the brand suggested from Sarah Raven. Thanks so much!

RHS membership
Magazine subscription
Raised bed kit
Heated propagator
Deck chair
Camping stove and kettle for tea at the allotment

I realise he may already have all of these!

TheOnlyAletheia · 01/02/2024 14:27

A great pair of secateurs - Felco are the best!
subscription to a gardening magazine
a rhurbarb forcer
insect hotel

I run a choir and each year the members give me a garden voucher. I love it. Not only do I get something lovely for the garden, but I get to browse around a garden centre knowing I have the means to get something free!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 01/02/2024 14:44

Ds bought me a weather vane for Christmas. It had birdies on it. Hr might like something like that?

New2024 · 01/02/2024 14:46

Mine loved the long handled trowel I bough him. Also books about famous gardeners/gardens. Sissinghurst, Heligan

Meadowfinch · 01/02/2024 14:52

As a gardener I always welcome lovely new sharp secateurs, loppers, and plants I've not grown before.

A fig tree?
