Getting seeds from the US

Struggling to get a couple of varieties of veg seeds normally available here. Think Brexit is causing supply issues.
They are available in the US where I have family who could order them and post to me, a few packets.
Is this likely to be an issue, posting seeds from the US to the UK?

Don't do it

What varieties are you trying to get hold of?

They could stick the seeds into an envelope with a greeting card or such.

The rules are hazy and generally aimed at commercial growers/ exporters / importers. If exporting / importing bulk seeds, they would need phytosanitary certificates.

It might not be worth the effort all the same. Have you exhausted all other possibilities?

This is how diseases spread worldwide that affect whole species and crops dying. What's so special about the seeds? I bet you can live without growing if.

I’ve never really given a lot of thought to this and have bought seeds in Europe while on holiday and brought them back with me for my own use.
The seeds are a ‘nice to have’ rather than a must have. It would be easy for my sister obtain and post so not a huge hassle.

Hi @Maggiethecat there are Government guidelines for seeds and plants being imported from non-EU countries, it's worth a read of the webpage before you go ahead. Although your sister can go into a store and buy the seeds, and send them to you in the postal system, that's the same as "exporting" them. Just not good horticultural practice imo.

it may also be worth checking online to see if your seeds can come from a reputable US provider who will have the necessary certification/health controls in place
