Plant ID request!

This one has me a bit stumped. It's looked like this since I bought the house this time last year. 99% sure it's a Digitalis, but which one? Lanata? Lutea? I don't think it's ferruginea.

Suggestions also welcome for the 1% of me that's not sure it's a Digitalis!

Could be lutea. Not lanata which gives the appearance of parallel veins. Very healthy looking plant

Horseweed !

No, not horseweed/Erigeron canadensis (but thanks for looking for me!). Horseweed is an annual - whatever mine is is definitely at least biennial because it's sat there doing nothing for at least a year!

It looks very different to my lutea (which to be fair is rather struggling - this looks very happy indeed).

Did it flower last year? If not I suspect it isn't a lutea.

That’s horse weed that’s just not died back.

WobblyLondoner · 14/01/2024 09:27

Your picture and the one of horseweed look identical so suspect other posters are right here.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 14/01/2024 09:35

How big is it across?

MereDintofPandiculation · 14/01/2024 14:08

Yes, I’m convinced by the horseweed picture - though did you find it using a google image search, @BetrayedAuntie , because normally in the UK it’s known as Canadian Fleabane.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 14/01/2024 14:29

I have loads of those. I pull them up. They’re weeds, although don’t know its name. It’s not a foxglove though.

The pictures look identical because they're the same picture! (aren't they?)

WobblyLondoner · 14/01/2024 16:46

@TheSpottedZebra Doh!! Missed that!

twobluechickens · 14/01/2024 17:20

The horseweed "picture" in BetrayedAuntie's post is my original photo! It confused me at first - I was like "wow that's amazing! Looks exactly like it!" and then the penny dropped.

It is not horseweed. Here is the horseweed rosette, which is quite different from my plant, not least because it's hairy and mine is not.

Interesting. It's done absolutely nothing all year except look lush! It's definitely happy where it is, which is a pain given I want to move it 😁

Yes, and me. I don’t use apps so forget how they work. (By “work” I wouldn’t like to-give the impression that they give the right answer.)

twobluechickens · 05/06/2024 19:24

Update. Almost in flower.

Ah FFS pressed post instead of adding a photo.

Any possibility it's a Pride of Madeira?

twobluechickens · 05/06/2024 19:56

No, it’s a foxglove, I just don’t know which species. I’d like a pride of Madeira though!

Have you tried picturethis app its pretty good

Wafflefudge · 05/06/2024 20:12

Picture this is suggesting it's a common foxglove. Digitalis purpurea.
Although might be easier to confirm species once flowers are open

twobluechickens · 05/06/2024 20:58

It’s not common foxglove, I have several of those and they have large greyish downy leaves - this has slim hairless deep green leaves. Leaning towards Digitalis lutea. I will update when it finally flowers!

Yamadori · 05/06/2024 23:52

Watching with interest!

EBearhug · 06/06/2024 00:06

What about digitalis ferruginea? Why don't you think it's that?

twobluechickens · 06/06/2024 07:03

@EBearhug only because I hadn’t thought of it! The leaf rosette looks pretty similar, I think you might be on to something there.

OP posts:
twobluechickens · 06/06/2024 07:06

Although saying that, the leaves on my plant are crinkled, D. ferruginea has comparatively smooth leaves. Hopefully the flowers will open in the next few days.
