What can I grow in my teeny tiny IKEA greenhouse?

I bought this little greenhouse that I imagine being inside during the winter and outside during the summer. Does anybody know what I can grow in it? I tried growing Coriander and Parsley, but they were dead within a few days.

I am feeling quite sad at the moment and I feel that nurturing and growing something will help me feel better. However, I have no gardening experience to would really appreciate some advice. Thanks.

ÅKERBÄR Greenhouse, in/outdoor/anthracite, 65 cm - IKEA

ÅKERBÄR Greenhouse, in/outdoor/anthracite, 65 cm This greenhouse in anthracite is ideal for plants and herbs. Perfect to place on the floor or on a table, indoors or outdoors. No green fingers? Fill it with souvenirs or cactuses instead.

I wouldn’t bother until the spring. I don’t have green fingers but I’ve had success with chives and chillis, both from seed.

parsley grows outside (almost) all year round. no need for a greenhouse.

if it has lights then I would try basil (lots if different types), mustard, rocket as cut and come again salad/herbs.
chia and cress also work quite well as sprouting seeds.

Thanks. Is it better to use seeds or half-grown herbs, do you think?

So: I think some indoor plants could work in there for the winter: I don’t know how sealed it is but I’d look for something super easy that will appreciate the extra humidity you’ll get with the greenhouse type space. Maybe try: spider plant; mother of thousands/Mexican hat plant; devils Ivy as starters for ten? Perhaps a pilea (Chinese money plant). They are all pretty indestructible and easy to propagate so if you ask on local Facebook groups plant parents may be happy to give you a baby for free (if you live near me, I have all of those available ;-) start with really little plants and they’ll soon start outgrowing your greenhouse!

id personally not grow herbs indoor over winter - think that would be hard! But I do grow parsley, rosemary, thyme and chives in a window box all year round. I’d maybe not plant them now as it’s a bit of a tough start but maybe in the spring.

tbh I’d probably consider keeping it as an indoor thing all year round. The problem with greenhouses in the summer is plants quickly dry out and overheat - I’m an allotmenteer and even very experienced growers often lose plants in the greenhouse due to watering issues.

If/When you do try herbs: for parsley, basil and chives I’d buy a supermarket plant then take out of its pot and split it loads: those pots can usually contain loads of baby plants and that’s often why potted herbs die - just too many plants squeezed into a small space! I split each pot into at least 4-6 different plants, sometimes more.
