I helped a neighbour who was moving out a couple weeks ago and found this outside my flat door with a handwritten Thank you so assuming this was from her. I can't ask ex-neighbour as I don't have her details. I have zero plants in my flat so not sure how to water it. It's looking quite sad and I don't think it has much time left!

They're succulents and need very little water. You're more likely to kill it by over watering than under watering. Most need a lot of sunlight.

Thank you @Teafoot! I have been over watering and it's been living on my dining table which doesn't get the sun. I'll move it to my window sill.

Looks like a sempervivum as just needs light and an occasional water

I'd probably get some small horticultural grit to put on top of the soil and pop it in a bathroom or a windowsill and maybe water it come spring.

If you take a photo with an iPhone - swipe up on the photo and there is an option to get the name of the plant

Yes a succulent. You can get indoor and outdoor varieties. The ones which survive outside are quite hardy. Indoor succulents need less water over the winter and more in the summer (especially when the weather is hot). Only water if soil has had a change to dry out. If you take off one of the parts with a bit of root (root makes it take faster) you can always start it off in a new pot.

That is Sempervivum, aka the Houseleek. This is normally grown as an alpine, and is not really suitable to be kept indoors, I’m afraid. It should be potted in a shallow pot/pan, with lots of grit for extra drainage, and grown outside, they don’t do well indoors sadly.

You get a name, which you can then research to see if it’s correct. Apps are better than they were, but still make quite spectacular mistakes.
