Mice or rats? WARNING dead rodent pics

Woke up this morning to two dead rodents in garden. Any idea what they are?
For size reference the circle thing is for a washing line pole. They're small but could be baby rats?
Or mice as they have larger ears?

Rats imo

allhellcantstopusnow · 08/11/2023 14:24

I'd say mouse.

allhellcantstopusnow · 08/11/2023 14:24

Oh 😂

Anothernewname123 · 08/11/2023 14:34

Looks like rats. Mice are cuter with shorter faces

Bovrilla · 08/11/2023 14:35

Those are young rats.
There will be nest nearby. Decking and under wood stores are favourites

Hedgesfullofbirds · 08/11/2023 14:35

Long tailed fieldmice - you are having lots of visitors @GlitteryFluff, after your sparrowhawk thread yesterday!

MrTiddlesTheCat · 08/11/2023 14:36

Are the tails hairless? Rats have hairless tails and mice have hairy ones.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 08/11/2023 14:37

Rat.

Freefree · 08/11/2023 14:39

Id say rat, my cats bring me mice and rats and I now consider myself an expert 😄

Oh don't 🤣. I absolutely love nature, have only recently moved into this house and finally have a garden at the age of 33 but now feel out of my depth with the comings and goings. Feeding the birds but now I have attracted a sparrowhawk and whatever these are. Field mice do look similar. Hopefully it's those and not rats. Though probably don't want mice either really.

Not rats, the ears are too large, the tail too long and slender and the face not blunt enough - they are fieldmice

Very fine hairs yes, almost hard to see. Not obviously hairy.

They could be wood mice. They’re that colour.

Hedgesfullofbirds · 08/11/2023 14:44

@GlitteryFluff, fieldmice are pretty harmless, although they may chew any bulbs you have planted. I have one in my house which comes out, on cue, every evening for its daily ration of biscuit crumbs, while I am having my tea too!

plumtreebroke · 08/11/2023 14:45

Look like rats to me.

CurlewKate · 08/11/2023 14:46

Rat. Sorry. Deffo rat.

user14699084775 · 08/11/2023 14:48

I think mice, tails don’t look thick enough for a young rat.

Hedgesfullofbirds · 08/11/2023 14:59

They sre not rats, they are fieldmice!

tartandress · 08/11/2023 15:02

If you are feeding the birds, sadly rats will be along sooner rather than later 😟

Ohdearwhatnow4 · 08/11/2023 15:06

Looks like rats due to size of feet

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 08/11/2023 15:12

Definitely rats.

Loobyloo68 · 08/11/2023 15:18

Ì thought mice have legs the same length while rats have bigger back legs than front legs ?

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 08/11/2023 15:19

Those saying mice, have you looked at the pic next to the washing line socket for scale? I'd expect a mice to be about the same size as the socket, not twice as big.

oakleaffy · 08/11/2023 15:21

Young 🐀 rats

Then they're mice. Rat tails are completely hairless.
