Buying potted perennials now

Crocus have a good sale on things like Nepeta and I'm tempted to buy now for next year.

I'm thinking of repotting them and keeping them by the window in my shed. Apparently greenhouses are too warm.

Would you do this or would you plant them out now before it's very cold?

Or is it just a waste of money?

I'd re-pot and then ensure they're in a sheltered place outdoors, where they can be kept moist but not waterlogged.

An alternative would be planting them in a temporary location and moving once the soil warms up in spring next year (just try to give the rootball a wide berth when moving if possible, but they'll survive the transfer either way - nepeta is pretty tough!).

Thanks for the alert about the Crocus sale - those are bargains! I'll be getting some myself 🙂

I'm completely new to gardening but read that it's good to plant things out now while the soil is still warm enough for them to start putting roots down. This mean they get a head start next year.

I ordered some perennials from Crocus as it's all on sale and planted them out last week - some of it is growing already.

Container grown plants can be planted all year found but November to March is the best time. You can plant them in their permanent position.

Sorry I didn't see these before. Thanks for that advice. My order still has nor arrived but I'll plant them out when they do come.
