What to do plant in new flower bed - total novice!

Hi, I've got a new raised flower bed, it's a good size. I've never done any gardening or planting. DD is keen to get involved too. What would you recommend considering it's almost November, we want something low maintenance and easy to look after. Vegetables and plant recommendations welcome, thank you.

Hardy Geraniums are low maintenance and can withstand most winters (they die back and come again). I have lots of varieties around the edges of my garden beds, flowering at various times of the year. Bees and other pollinators love them so they're great for supporting wildlife. Slugs don't like them, which is a huge vote in their favour for me! My favourite is Geranium 'Rozanne'.

Put loads of bulbs in first, then agree geraniums on top. And herbs would be nice- a golden oregano is great and makes nice mound shapes. And maybe some tall stuff! Could sow sweet peas now and plant out in spring to climb up some teepees..

The sweet peas are obviously a bit more faff... but those and the bulbs would make it look very pretty until the perennials bulk up a bit.

places like J Parker’s, Suttons and the likes have lots of bulb offers at the moment so you could fill it really cheaply. Top it up with cyclamen, winter pansies and Michaelmas daisies.

Thank you all so much :) I've finally got myself a lovely garden so am looking forward to learning some new skills and making it look pretty!!
