How windproof is aparagus?

Two years ago, I grew some asparagus from seed. I assumed it wouldn't thrive in my garden, because of the wind (it's very, very windy here!). We don't get much front because we are very close to the sea, but it is very windy.

I planted the asparagus in a raised bed in my polytunnel. It is now approximately 8 feet tall and taking up far more space than I had anticipated. I would like to move it outside but I'm worried about the wind. I expect it would be much shorter outside and the waxy leaves should be okay with the salt air, but it has taken me 2 years to get it to a decent size, so I don't want to murder it!

What do you think, should I just leave it, or is it worth trying to move it? I can't do anything until it dies back, which wasn't until nearly Christmas last year, but I am doing my plan for next year's crops so I want to get it all straight in my head.

two-year old crowns are perfect for lifting and planting out into rows about 4 foot wide. I find the easiest way to support them is to build a 'fence' around them with canes and twine, the plants then tend to support each other.

Waxy leaves? All my asparagus has is wispy fronds, which I've already reduced to knee-high.

Yes, when you touch the fronds, they gave a definitely waxy feel. The plants on the north side are starting to die back now, so hopefully I will be able to move them soon, providing the weather allows me to dig the new bed!

Well that was not a thread title I was expecting to read tonight.

Coming up next. "How soundproof is a carrot?"
