House plant ID

I bought this last year from the ‘nearly dead’ section. Can’t even remember where I bought it.

Brought it home, repotted it, fed it (occasionally) & watered it. It’s now clearly thriving (was tiny when I bought it) but I’ve no clue what it is!
Does anyone know? Like to hazard a guess?

Thanks in advance

I had the same problem and my aunt told me about plant identifier apps. I got an accurate result on my plant.

You can either download an app on your phone (search for "plant identifier") or use a website like this (upload your photos). Good luck.

I think it might be moses in the cradle. I have one it’s quite dark purple underneath

If you have an iPhone you can click on the photo once taken and use the info button to identify the plant-

This is what my iPhone thinks

Thanks folks.
I think it’s Moses-in-the-Cradle.

As an aside, outstanding plant name! 👌🏻

If you didn’t already know what the plant was, how did you know the result was accurate?

@MereDintofPandiculation, I checked three different apps and the plant ID was the same on all of them. The examples at the apps also looked identical to my plant.

You need also to google the plant and find out whether the written description is the same, for example you're looking at a tree and the plant it's been identified as is a climber, whether it's likely to be growing where you've seen it, eg it's been identified as a tropical plant and it's growing in the middle of Snowdonia, whether the size is correct, etc. Apps are great for giving clues to further research, but they are only pattern matching, they don't put any botanical knowledge into their identification.

Agree, apps don't know what part of the world you are in, and can come up with something wildly inaccurate.

Looks like tradescantia to me. Turns out Moses-in-the-cradle is a kind of tradescantia.
