Is there such a thing as slug poo?

I found these in an empty watering can in the shed (fork for scale, have not been eating them!). Also inside my barbecue (yuk).

What are they? We do have a lot of slugs. I don’t think it is plant matter as not in places where things could blow in.

Is there such a thing as slug poo?

Yep and snail poop

Anything which takes in solid food at one end without being able to get rid of waste matter at the other is going to have severe problems

Good point, however in my opinion slugs are creatures from the depths of hell to which normal rules of nature may not necessarily apply!

Some things take in solid food at one end and get rid of waste matter by the same route rather than at the other end.

Slugs are not one of them, though - they do poo, and it looks very much like that (although that looks quite old and dried, not fresh).

Are you thinking of things like octopuses?

I seem to remember snails have evolved something called torsion(?), their bodies have twisted so their anus is over their heads. If there's any justice in the world slugs will have the same set up.

Although tbf a snail did us a favour by crapping on our bathroom window and proving our then window cleaner just came to our house to drink lager in the garden.

All sorts, from amoeba up. Even things like owls have a mix of in-and-through and in-and-back.

I suppose the key thing about all of these is that they are still able to get rid of the waste. Continuing to eat and simply retaining waste on board is problematic

Ant lion larvae

What happens to all the food an antlion larva consumes during its life? Do antlions "go to the bathroom"? Yes and no. Antlions excrete some fluid during their larval life. If you keep antlions as pets you might notice small "sugar lumps" in the sand; these are merely sand grains stuck together from excreted fluid (Mansell 2001). But the antlion's digestive tract lacks an external opening for solid waste, so feces accumulate within its body for the entire larval stage—up to three years! Some of the waste is processed into silk for later use during the pupal stage (Arnett 1985, 249-250); the remainder is voided by the adult when it emerges from the cocoon.

Up to three years for your first proper poo! No wonder they feel like flying.
