tree for very large container in shady corner

I've recently acquired a very large old zinc container (MIL says it looks like a mine). We've got a shady courtyard and I'd like to put it in the corner there with a tree in it to give some height.

It'll be very visible from the house all year round but doesn't necessarily have to be evergreen. In fact I think I'd prefer not but open to ideas.

The background is white rendered wall so something to stand out and there's a acer Sango Kaku in a raised bed near it. Which is soft limey green most of the year.

I'm thinking Acer Skeeter's Broom as that is quite upright and I think the red would be nice....but I've already got one of them in the front garden.

Can't be too spready/prickly as it's next to the BBQ...and I'll get moans.

I'd still make it an acer, one that goes well with the sango kaku. Maybe Trompenburg, or possibly a red laceleaf one (a relatively upright one)?

Like that one, thank you. It needs to be upright whatever I choose. Also need to drill holes in the bottom, I hate drilling.

If it's zinc, you can just hammer a spike through the base to make holes, which avoids drilling

Thanks for the tip...it's got a very thick bottom but I think I'll try that first....
