Planting bulbs for all year in a long pot

… is this possible?

I have a long low wall on my drive way and want to use a window box pot or several on it. I wanted to plant bulbs that bloom at different times between early spring and summer. I know there are various techniques such as a ‘bulb lasagne’ but what do you do with the straggly flowers once they’re past their best? Can you plant different bulbs in a row without them looking too gappy at different times of the year?

trying to find some sort of guide online - anyone have any tips?

many thanks

The bulb lasagne is the method that’s supposed to work for succession but personally I’ve found too many layers doesn’t work and does result in messy leaves etc. My tried and tested Spring pots are tulips buried low then crocus nearer the top with violas to provide top cover. I go for bright combos like purple and orange. That will take you to early summer. I think the best bet is to have separate summer pots at that point and swap them out.

Thank you. Do the violas go all the way through? Do you use pansies?

They will go through to summer if you deadhead but get straggly by then. Pansies work in the same way but I’ve found violas look better for longer. You do need to swap things out to keep it looking nice I find.
