How to care for new turf.

Recently had new turf and would like to know how to best look after it. We are watering daily and not walking on it. We do have a dog and although she is walked regularly and we are trying to keep her off it I know she has had a, wee on it a couple of times. Is there anything special I should be doing with it.

Just keep it watered, particularly around the edges/corners of each piece. With the current forecast, Mother Nature will probably do it for you.

I wouldn't worry about the dog.

You might find in a few months that you get a few sunken patches (depends how well it was levelled) - you can peel back the turf and add in some more soil.

Thank you, do I need to feed it?

Loads of water at first until it's established.

I've no idea if this is true but my mum always claimed putting some tomato ketchup in the dogs food - this could be completely made up though 😂

Won't need feeding at this time of year...in the next couple of months it'll go dormant for the winter. Maybe in Spring, but not really necessary.

If your dog drinks water solely from her dish, have a look at 'Dog Rocks' - place them in her water dish - they change the ph of the dogs urine to cause less lawn damage.
I've also heard the tomato sauce route - does the same thing with the ph

Also, depends how bothered you are - keep a full watering can handy to pour where she wets on the lawn - dilutes the urine
