Sick houseplant (Hoya). Help (pic attached)

I have a beautiful hoya bella that has flowered abundantly this year but I've recently noticed yellowing and dropping leaves.

It also hasn't been responding normally to watering so I've just unpotted it and I fear root rot. I've trimmed some of the remaining roots until I can see sap but what's best to do now?

I've had this plant for quite some time and really want to save it. I've attached a photo of the roots now

Pot it up in moist but not wet compost. You could also try taking cuttings. Don’t know about H bella - H carnosa goes easily from cuttings.

I agree repot and wait. They do like being in quite a shady spot. They are tough plants, mine is nearly 40 years old and has moved house 3 times. It has sulked at times until I find the right spot for it.
id also take cuttings.

Thank you for the replies. At the moment it's bare rooted, suspended over a kilner jar as I realised way too late that I hadn't got enough compost to repot it. I hope it makes it as it's a lovely plant and my other Hoyas are fine. I was away for 3 weeks a while ago so I think that triggered the problem, got too dry then obviously I soaked it when I got home.

What's the best way to root Hoya cuttings? In water or soil?

I've always propagated in a glass of water. They can take quite a while send out rootlets, but it's easy and you can keep an eye on them.

got too dry then obviously I soaked it when I got home. That was the right thing to do. It’s prolonged wetness that rots roots.

I've done that before (maybe it hadn't been left quite as long) and it bounced back but this time it's been different @MereDintofPandiculation and I can't fathom why.

I'll take some cuttings today then repot it in damp compost and leave it alone. How long before I should water it? I can't tell from the leaves at the moment as they're not at their best.

Wait till the top cm of compost is dry.
