Help - what to do with this rose?!

We've just moved house and in the back of the border there are two roses. They are really tall and scraggly - one is just one extremely long cane, it does have new growth right on the top??
The other one has bloomed but again it is 3 very long canes. They are both crowded by large shrubs that I think were once obviously a lot smaller than they are now.

Could I move these roses in autumn? Or would cutting the surrounding overgrown shrubs help?

I think they might be climbers? Any help appreciated!

I would prune right back in autumn and move then if you need to. If you are leaving them in situ then, yes, cut back the surrounding shrubs to give them space and light.

Can you identify the shrubs? If they’ve already flowered then they could be pruned now. Do you think the roses are climbers? Are they up against a wall or fence? If so you could retrain the long shoots horizontally along the fence. They will then shoot up vertically and flower.
If they are shrub roses, you could give a gentle prune and feed there’s still time for them to thicken out and flower.

Shrubs are a massive hydrangea and a large overgrown cotoneaster.

I think they are climbers as they seem to be planted close to the fence!

Thank you both!

Leave them as they are for now, and prune them at the right time of year for climbing roses.

Cotoneasters can take severe pruning, so you could do that as well. If it is developing berries, wait until the birds have had their fill this winter, and prune it in early spring.
