Leggy succulents

I had a lovely indoor succulent but it's gone all leggy. How do you stop this? It was in the window so not like it needs to lean towards the light! Do I just need to bin it now?

Too much warmth, water and fertiliser, too little light. Even in a south facing window, it’s getting a fraction of the light it would get outside. That’s if you have a rosette style succulent which is elongating, or any succulent with long spindly soft stems.

If you have a succulent with leaves up a stem, and it’s losing the lower leaves while growing new ones at the end of the stem, easiest way is yo chop the top off and start it again as a cutting.

It would really help to know what it is. Photo?

Mere is absolutely correct. All succulents and cacti need as much sun as you can give them, coming from arid habitats with strong sun. In window areas they definitely need turning too, as they seek the light. South facing is best, if you have that.
A photo would be a great help!

It is (was) in a south facing window. I've actually chopped it today and pulled a bunch of leaves off to try and propegate and start again. It's an echeveria. So maybe I watered it too much?

The main thing is the light, especially in winter. Better off cool in winter so they’re not trying to grow

Have you got an outdoor space to grow them in as they would benefit from the bright light levels in the summer period? Even if it's on the doorstep. Then bring them indoors when the temps drop.

I have one of these in my bathroom on the windowsill and I haven't watered it in 6 months! The humidity from the showers is more than enough for it

Yes I think I killed some plants in the garden by overwatering this year too. Oops! Lesson learnt. Will take all your tips on board thank you.
