Plant to 'hide' neighbours garden

We have a tiny front garden, mainly gravel and a raised bed with different plants, bordered by a hedge. My new neighbours garden is quite unsightly (I'm being polite) and we are separated by only that green plastic "fencing" Any suggestions of a plant that I could grow in a pot or a planter that would work to cover the gap between our garden and next door? Ideally something low maintenance and quick growing. Thanks in advance!

Row of bamboo plants in pots or a long planter?

Golden cane bamboo

Yep, Bamboo in a pot. I hide a short length of next door’s orange fence with 3 bamboos in pots.
Plant it in the largest pot you can find, they grow from runners under the soil, so it will be able to thicken up.
They’re quite expensive, but sometimes Homebase has them reduced at this time of year.

Thanks all, sounds like bamboo is a pretty unanimous choice!

This. We have pots of bamboo along our border which is growing nicely.

Well this is a disappointing thread. I misread the title and thought you were looking for plants to HIDE in their garden.

Finally got round to doing this today..3 large bamboo plants all half price in B&Q and they have perfectly screened off their garden. Thanks for the advice!

Although they can be a nuisance in the ground, in pots they do need feeding and frequent watering during Spring and Summer.

I’ve been told that their leaves rot down and become food for the bamboo. I planted some in pots a couple of months ago to screen an ugly wall, and I’m delighted that they’re thriving with very little effort from me.

Glad to hear it. Mine are about 10 years old, I moved them from my previous house about 7 years ago, and had to reduce their size, which they didn’t like much. I’ve also repotted them once, a mammoth two person job! So I have neutered them a bit and they’re now quite happy. Although hardy and thought to be bomb proof, a harsh winter can take its toll on them.
