Is it too late to plant herbs?

Clueless gardener here! I would like to plant thyme, sage and rosemary in a bed and mint in a pot - all from plants, not seeds. I'm in South East of England if it makes a difference. Is it too late in the year?

Thanks

No

No it will be fine. In my experience most herb (not basil or coriander) like to be treated appallingly. I think it’s because they long to be wild and free.

Nope. All of those have survived year and years here, through snowy alps winters and scorching summer droughts.

Not too late. Just be sure to water them even if in the ground until they take- especially as we are supposed to get a 40C heat wave in a couple of weeks.

Oh great stuff, thanks! Do they need feeding as well as watering and if so, what would that involve?

Don’t feed them they like it harsh. You could shade them if they start scorch.

In the ground they’ll be fine. Mint is greedy, so repot into fresh soil every year. I don’t feed mine, just repot or start new cuttings if it’s seeming to stagnate

Mint, oregano and chives I plant separately in large pots as it can take over via the soil and sprout out metres away. At the end of Autumn it all gets cut down, and in spring grows again fine. So just short brown sticks all winter
