Rose and clematis combination

We've finally prepared a wall for climbers. It's south facing, though gets some shade in the day. Clematis has done well there before, but I don't want another Montana as it was too vigorous. I'd love a pink rose and white clematis combination. Any suggestions for which ones work well together?

I saw them both and some others today and they are so beautiful. But the GJ was exactly the colour I'm after. I'll plant one when it cools down a little, or perhaps wait until the winter. I can't wait to see it blooming. Thanks for all the advice.

We're off to Wynyard Hall tomorrow - the David Austin rose garden is sublime. I persuade DH to visit the Albrighton garden every couple of years - bribe him with a trip to RAF Cosford........

I planted a bare root GJ in November and look at it now in it's first year. The colour is really striking

This is mine all 3yr old DA roses: Blush Noisette, Gen Gardener, giant purple nepeta, Kew Gardens, another nepeta and then another GG, then lady of the lake. The other side of the garden is primary colours so depending on where you sit is what colours you see!

Gertrude is an excellent choice! Smells amazing and holds its petals for a long time too.
