Plant for a gift

I'm wanting to get my mum and plant for a gift for her birthday however I know nothing about plants in order to choose something that will be suitable for her garden and I was wondering if someone could help?
Her back garden doesn't get much light due to a huge oak tree which shades of from about 10am for the full day.
Her front garden is sunnier. We live in the West coast of Scotland so while it has the odd HOT day, we have more cool and wet days.

Looking forward to hearing some suggestions! Oh and she has a gardener so hopefully he can help tend it if need be.

Maybe a nice lace cap hydrangea? Look at Hydrangea Serrata 'Bluebird' or Hydrangea Macrophyllia 'Zorro', with dark stems. Don't mind shade and like the wet!

Hostas for the back garden. Hosta lists have a page that shows slug resistant cultivars and you might be able to find one with her name or some kind of link to her. You can cross reference with the sun tolerant list for the front garden.

Clematis, hardy Geraniums and Roses all have lots of varieties with first names too.

You could look at the RHS website to find a plant to fit the characteristics you would like too. I try to find things that are evergreen and long flowering or with interesting foliage. You might want to find something that flowers near her birthday.

Potentially what you choose might have to come from a specialist nursery unless you are lucky enough to have some good garden centres near you.

Unfortunately I don't drive so will have to buy online.
Funnily she has 2 Hortas already as I was admiring them the last time I was over. Both very different so could try and get her a 3rd different one. Love the idea of getting one with her name.
The hydrangea look lovely as well. And Clematis are beautiful! And I'll definitely check out the RHS website.

Thank you both for your help.

I love Hydrangea Annabelle. Does really well in a shady corner of my garden.

Ferns love the shade and don't just come in green! I've got green ones (with some rusty red ones on order) which are thriving under a massive tree in our garden. I love the way they unfurl in the spring having pretty much disappeared during the winter.

You can buy from the RHS too and their plants even have a guarantee. (I've had mixed results from several other online nurseries. )

Ooh that sounds interesting and I'm pretty positive she doesn't have a fern. That's also good to know about the guarantee as it's a bit of a gamble buying online.

Generous Gardener Rose from David Austin is happy in shade from about 10am in my garden. Lovely scent, climber.

A Japanese acer in a nice pot. They're slow growing and they like it dappled and no full sun, and also, somewhere sheltered. Doesn't like to dry out, and the leaves go through the seasons beautifully.
