What's wrong with my plant?

I know less than nothing about gardening and plants. I just wanted some in my new home.

But this one is clearly not happy!

What have I done wrong? I water it every few days and it's sitting near my window.

What's wrong with my plant?

Hm. Dry ends would suggest not enough water.

Maybe get one of these to check?

I think you might be overwatering. It doesn’t need water every few days. Just when soil dry. If soil always too wet it has no oxygen and you can suffocate the roots

My plant ID app says leaf scorch/blight. If you download an app called PictureThis (it’s totally free you don’t have to pay anything, just keeps x’ing out of the screen trying to get you to sign up!) it tells you what might be the problem and solutions.

That's not the most likely problem with a houseplant.

By all means use an app to give ideas (it's only flicking through a large number of pictures to find one that looks similar) but that is only a starting point- you need to do a lot of research to see if there is any virtue in the idea.

Over watering. I think with those kind of plants you must wait til the soil is Nearly dry before watering again.

I don't know about this plant specifically but some plants can be sensitive to the additives in tap water or if you live in a hard water area that can cause problems. It could as pp suggested be over watering. I discovered there was a thing called gustation that some plants do. They excrete excess water from their leaves (it was me overwatering the calla on my kitchen windowsill, not a leak from the bathroom). Excess water will eventually burst the leaf cells, sometimes you'll see blisters appearing in the leaves! You can trim of the dead bits to make the plant look neater. Check that the top inch or so of soil is dry before watering, make sure the pot it's in has drainage and it's not sitting in water. It's a lovely plant.

It's probably slightly too near the window.
