Anyone not cutting their grass - how's it going?

I decided to not mow in May and then see what happened - I like the idea of a less mowing, and a more meadow-y garden. A few weeks in now and I can't decide if it just looks a bugger and I should get the mower out this weekend.

Interested to know if anyone is doing this and how you're finding it. Maybe it's like growing out a fringe and I just haven't got it long enough yet?

Admittedly I haven't done the edges for a couple of weeks, but it's so long now that tidying up the edges doesn't really show anyway. Will try to upload a couple of pics - would be interested to see what others think. The old swing (now used as a climbing frame) doesn't help with the abandoned playground look :)

I saw on the BBC the other day that a lot of hedgehogs were being hurt by people strimming after no mow May so be on the lookout! (not that I've ever seen one in my garden :-( )
We have an area of the garden that I don't mow in the summer, I've planted ox eye daisies, scabious and some other wild flowers. Although I don't mow it till September I do cut the grass back with the loppers to give the flowers more chance and stop the grass seeding everywhere. Loving all the pictures!

@BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn that's really beautiful!

Ours is mown simply because it’s a small lawn and it’s impossible to pick up dog poo, however I do have a wildflower border and I only grow plants that support insects and wildlife (we have toads and frogs that live in one border that’s left virtually untouched). I also have 2 resident toads living in the greenhouse 😊)
We back onto very steep woodland so plenty of wildlife all round.
