Compact shrub

Can anyone recommend a shrub that will grow around 3 feet wide and 5 feet high, and only needs seasonal pruning? Nothing that will cause a lot of mess with falling blossoms into my new neighbours driveway.

I want to take out a section of hedge that's needs regular trimming and needs doing from my new neighbours driveway but need to replace it as the hedge provides some screening for their door.

What aspect is it and what is the soil like? How much sun does it get?

how about a choisya? NIce scent, pretty tolerant of anything. Or a pittisporum. usually well behaved. I like tom thumb.

Not sure on size but i have a Californian lilac and it's gorgeous, ours is shaped like a big ball, next door have one a lot larger and flatter, against a fence, house nearby shaped theirs into a rectangle to edge the lawn

It's south facing but shaded by the bungalow, I'm not sure about the soil yet.

I had thought maybe a standard shrub, I've had a California lilac and it's beautiful, and great for bees, I could then plant something else around it.

I'm not familiar with those but will google, thanks.

I love choisya Aztec Pearl as it naturally tends to go into a ball shape (with some small amount of clipping- but minimal). It flowers twice a year and is evergreen. It is slow to get going perhaps and would not necessarily fit in as part of a hedge if you want a uniform look. Photinia is good for hedging- evergreen with red tipped leaves that lol particularly good in spring and Autumn- it grows quite quickly but is manageable and has big white flowers (once established) that the bees and butterflies love. Escallonia and ceanothus are also lovely flowering shrubs but perhaps less tidy in their habits. Mock orange (Philadelphus)is beautifully scented and suitable for hedging - quite vigorous but manageable.
