I want to add to my patio. What is your favourite potted plant? Photos welcome!

Nemesis, I've only just noticed them. They're scented, though I find some of the strong vanilla ones a bit much, abundant flowers and a beautiful range of colours.

How warm is your patio? We've got a suntrap and have patio apples, figs, calamondine (sp?) oranges, olive, bay and I've just started what I hope will be a miniature wisteria. The olive is my favourite, mostly because it was the very first plant I bought for my very first garden.

Ffs, nemesia!

tootrueblue · 31/05/2023 20:51

I've got a couple of shaped buxus, a peony, hydrangeas and dahlias

I love my purple alliums. I always feel super pleased when they come out because they look so perfect. I've also got some lupins in a pot that are starting to look lovely.
My Azalea plant that I bought from home bargains for £2.49 is now huge and look's gorgeous full of pink flowers.

I only have a patio so everything is in pots - I also love nemesia, but I particularly love the wisley vanilla one Smile

i have dahlia, sweet peas, peonies, lots of bacopa, million bells and lobelia to spill out of the front of pots.

Viola in small pots to sit around in smaller spaces.

Lavender, various herbs. Tomatoes and sunflowers will go in too when they’re a bit bigger.

Wisley Vanilla is my favourite and on the go at mine at the moment

@DIsForDelightful it is lovely, the scent though, it might actually be my nemesis 😄

I was wondering why you had the Goddess of Retribution in a pot Grin

So many to choose from! I’ve only become interested in gardening in the last couple of years. Will look up these suggestions and add to my pots. Luckily have a south facing patio, sun most of the day.

Sennetti are beautiful.

I've got a lovely gardenia in a pot in my garden, its this one: https://www.crocus.co.uk/plants/_/gardenia-jasminoides-crown-jewel-pbr/classid.2000026186/
Gardenias are a bit tender, and although this one is meant to be a bit tougher than the other varieties I don't quite believe it, and being in a container means I can move it to a sheltered area of the garden in the winter. Its evergreen and oh my goodness, the scent and the flowers are so lovely!

Gardenia jasminoides 'Crown Jewel (PBR)' - gardenia

One of the hardier forms

Nemesias, diascias, verbenas, violas, ranunculus and small clematis in pots, climbing roses on the walls and fences.

NeverendingCircus · 02/06/2023 17:41

I love coleus. So bright and beautiful and you can pot different varieties all together. Loads of colour, no deadheading!

Furiously · 02/06/2023 22:57

We have very dry sun baked chalky well drained soil so anything that can’t tolerate those conditions I grow in pots. Eg foxgloves, hosta, Veronica gentianodes, rudbeckia, tulips, agapanthus, pelargoniums. I also love argyranthemum, chrysanthemums and dahlia in pots. Plus lots of types of mint and strawberries.

TheIsleOfTheLost · 02/06/2023 23:12

I love callistemon. Mine has died back twice in harsh winters, but regrown again.

nothingeverhappensinstmarymead · 03/06/2023 19:59

I try to use pots on the patio for scented plants - roses, but also scented pelargoniums, lavender and pinks. I put some planters together last summer with a mix of salvia, thyme and lavender, and they have come back beautifully this year with no effort. Penstemon is also good for colour and long flowering. Lemon verbena and lemonbalm. I also have a couple of blueberry bushes in pots - they are actually a very attractive shrub. I've not had many fruit from them yet but one is doing quite well this year and I'm hopeful for a little crop at least.

nothingeverhappensinstmarymead · 03/06/2023 20:00

(I was also just thinking today that gardenia would be a good addition, and wondering if it would be difficult to grow. And I agree that coleus are fab for colour and no effort).
