Can anyone identify these wild flowers?

I planted some wild flower seeds with the kids in this big bucket. Nothing germinated for ages then all of the sudden, we have this. Does anyone know what any of these could be? (Hoping it's not just a bucket full of weeds!) thanks.

There’s not a lot of difference between wildflowers and weeds 😁 a weed is just a wildflower growing in a place you don’t want it to be.

I’m not absolutely sure what they are as they’re still small… you might have to wait and see. Hope you get some lovely flowers.

Going by the leaves you might have groundsel and comfrey in there, but it's too early to say for sure.

Thank you both - complete beginner but hopefully we'll get some flowers as my 5 year old would be delighted Smile

Looks like some marigolds are in there as well.

MereDintofPandiculation · 31/05/2023 20:56

The jagged one at the front looks like corn marigold, the hairy one at the front looks like borage or vipers bugloss. The one the right with linear leaves that is bending down to the left looks like a cornflower. There’s a very fine leaved one which could be love in a mist. The ones on the right look like Calundula/pot marigold.

Are you going to pot them on and give them more space? Actually it is a big bucket, you may get away with it, and it’s always a bit of a risk transplanting things

Interesting! You'll have to post another pic when you get some flowers.

They’re coming on well! Going to look quite vibrant when it’s in flower

It’s the first time I’ve seen candytuft described as a wild flower! I think that is what used to be sold as hardy annual mix . I suppose it’s a way of getting people to buy them

AdamRyan · 26/06/2023 08:23

They are beatiful

orangeflags · 26/06/2023 08:37

Candytuft is one of my favourites. It self seeds now in my garden. Lovely plant

Volte · 26/06/2023 08:38

Aw, they’re lovely OP!

andasthedaysgoby · 26/06/2023 08:39

Looks lovely 🌷

Blue with red tinges = Viper’s Bugloss (UK native but not common), tall blue = Cornflower (formerly a weed of cornfields but now virtually eliminated in the wild through agricultural practices) yellow = Corn Marigold (formerly a weed of corn fields but now virtually eliminated).

White I think is Sweet Alyssum, not as far as I know a UK native. It’s definitely not Candytuft because Candytuft has unequal petals, the two on the outside of each flower being larger than the two facing the centre of the flowerhead.

Really chuffed that I got three of them from your first photo Grin

Yes, it’s looking lovely, and they’re all good for bees.

Thank you for the update OP, they're lovely.

Beebumble2 · 26/06/2023 17:03

What a beautiful mixture, Sweet Alssyum seeds itself around my paving, I. Only planted it once a couple of years ago.
