Which flowering plants for cemetery pots

For various reasons (distance mainly) I can’t visit my DHs grave all that often. His plot looks so unloved and it makes me feel so guilty.
With Father’s Day coming up I thought I could get the DC to help me plant some flowering plants into pots to put there instead of the usual bunch of supermarket flowers. My mum visits my grandads grave in the same cemetery once a fortnight so she can give them a glug of water whilst she’s there.
Im completely clueless so no idea of what to plant. Something pretty but something that doesn’t mind a bit of wind or dry weather now and again.
If really like to spruce up the plot a bit - he only died 7 years ago aged 30 and his plot looks like that of someone who has been forgotten which is not the case at all.

I’d put a geranium on for the summer, they don’t mind being occasionally dry.

Please check the cemetery regulations if you haven't already. Many won't allow pots, and even if you have seen other graves with pots they will be entirely within reason to remove any at any time.

quite agree do check the regulations first many are now banning silk flowers which are a good alternative and also memorials such as ornaments teddies etc. i agree geraniums as they are good for neglecting rockery plants are good too as they like dry conditions. bedding plants don't do very well as the annuals require a lot of watering deheading etc
