Hi,

Please may I have some advice on what to plant in this particular spot. The soil is good but it is between a big tree and a big bush so even after cutting back sun is an issue. I've been here 2 yrs and everything that worked brilliantly at previous homes just dies or just doesn't grow further. Any advice would be welcomed and appreciated. Thanks

I recommend this one fairly often - golden yew. Taxus baccata fastigiata aurea.

Alternatively perhaps some begonias or busy lizzies in an old-fashioned urn type container or chimney pot with ferns in the ground round the base.

If all else fails, a statue!

I've got a bed in deep shade. I've got hostas, some dwarf rhododendrons, a variety of rambling rose that doesn't mind shade, and some vinca minors for ground cover. Everything seems to be doing OK.

North facing, under next doors cherry tree....

Hosta, heuchera (not brilliant, but still there), hellebore, some sort of miniature rose, ivy nettles and some stuff I can't identify, but more shrubby than I think you are after.
