Can anyone identify this shrub for me?

It was here when we moved into our house two and a half years ago. I love it, but it could do with a bit of trimming back and it's getting quite leggy. It has lovely clusters of deep pink flowers in July/August, so I won't be doing anything to it until after then, but I would like to know what it is first. My keen gardener next door neighbour hasn't got a clue what it is!

Think it is an Oleander. They like the warmth but dont know much about them

Looks like oleander. Be VERY careful and always wear gloves if you trim in. It produces a white sap and its highly toxic. Also- never burn the off cuts because the fumes are toxic too!

@CC4712 @efeslight thank you both very much - I've just been googling images of oleander and that's definitely what it is. Will proceed with caution!

Definitely oleander, every single part is toxic (but pretty!).

ApplePippa · 27/05/2023 13:48

@Pinkywoo I'm very glad I asked here before I started hacking at it. I had no idea it was so toxic. Last summer I was cutting flowers off it and putting them in vases with my sweet peas - won't be doing that this year!
