Planning permission for fedge (listed building)

Hi,
I’m new to gardening (and home ownership) and I was wondering if anyone had put in a living willow fedge? We have a bit of land at the back of our house that I would like to screen off for privacy, but as we have a listed building, planning permission is needed for everything. From what I can gather from the internet any fencing on the land of a listed building needs pp, however hedges do not - does anyone know if a fedge count as a hedge or a fence!? I’m also very much enjoying the word fedge :)
Thanks!

I would think not however since it is free to apply for listed building consent I would do this and have on record that it was not required for when you sell

I would think it would be treated as a hedge.

I believe that approvals for listed properties are to protect against potential permanent damage being caused. So for a fence you would need to use concrete, which is a permanent thing. A hedge is dig up-able and can be removed with no trace.

Your local planning department should be able to help, or the planning portal.

Fedge is a mighty pleasurable word to say, I agree. Quite like the idea of inviting guests to 'come and see the fedge'...

I've never heard of a fedge, but if as I imagine it I'd say it's a hedge.

How close to the buildings would it be? Once willow gets going it is very vigorous. The roots can cause all sorts of structural problems, including damaging water and sewer pipes.

I'd be more inclined to go with a beech hedge in that situation.

Thanks all. I will definitely check with the heritage people, just wanted to sense check really. It’ll be pretty far away from any buildings, the plot is down a little ginnel, like a secret garden. That’s why I’d prefer a fedge over a boring wooden fence!
