I have just ordered an Eglu and 2 chickens from Omlet and am very excited - anyone have chickens? Any advice?

We use DH's wood chips in the pen when it gets too muddy but you have to be careful with wood chip as Honey Fungus spores can infect the trees in your garden.

When it's the really dry, pine chippings it's great and smells lovely too.

Megalegs - try this
you make up a solution then layer the eggs and they should keep fresh for quite a while or freeze them (whipped up)...good for baking or scrambled eggs.

Ooh - isinglas - it'll be just like in the war.

I have been baking; muffins and sponge cakes galore, all in freezer. Anyone that comes to our house gets 1/2 a dozen (the window cleaner was very chuffed ).

We are getting on top of it now.

The rescue hens are slowing down as they are about to moult so only had 5 eggs yesterday. my original lot are going strong although my partridge dotte is laying eggs somewhere in the garden and I can't find them - little blighter.
