Please can I ask for your recommendation for house plants with fragrance. I am also not sure if I can order them online from a nursery. We are in London so only know B&Q. Thanks

Jasmine smells lovely

Gardenias can be a bit tricky to get into flower, they're quite sensitive to temperature - I was put off them because of this. I'd go with jasmine.

Stephanotis is strongly perfumed, and a bit like Jasmine on steroids with waxy leaves and flowers. But it isn’t very easy to grow indoors, needing quite specific requirements.

I have a citrus plant from ikea, the blossoms smell lovely.

Hoya have a lovely fragrance, little clusters of flowers that smell beautiful in the evening.

Jasmine will bloom for a long time. You might just get one in flower at Colombia Road flower market. They usually sell them in April/May. It's always worth going for a browse and Sunday lunch anyway. You might find something else you like. There are always bargains to be had when they start to pack up.

Lilies (if you don't have pets) and hyacinths are both strongly perfumed and supermarkets often sell them in pots in the cut flower section.

Google plant nurseries/garden centres in London to find independent nurseries nearby. There are loads, although many are small. Petersham is lovely to visit and go for afternoon tea, as is Clifton (Maida Vale). The Palace Gardener, Boma, N1, W6, Neal's Nursery, The Chelsea Gardener... Also, you can filter for scent on a lot of the online plant suppliers, like Crocus.

I'm not a fan of scented pelargoniums but I am a fan of Norfolk Herbs! They are a great nursery. If you have external window boxes, I love the scent of herbs drifting in through the open window after the rain!

I love stephanotis and jasmine but generally kill them with kindness. However, this year I have come across scented butterfly orchids - Phalaenopsis (I found one in Sainsburys of all places, but also at good garden nurseries) which have a lovely fragrance, not strong, but the flowers last for months if lucky. They are slower to re-bloom than other varieties, but some have spotted or more silvery leaves for interest.

Thank you so much everyone. Lots of good advice.
Never been to Colombia Road flower market before so I’m going there on Sunday.
