Torbay palms

So I have a few torbay palms (that's what I call them anyway)that were planted by previous house owner. I have tried unsuccessfully to get rid of them by cuttthem down, chopping them out etcetc but they reappear with more side shoots after a while. The winter seems to have worked in my favour this year and a large part of one clump has rotted off. What on earth can I do to stop new ones shooting up? Have I really got to poison it?

Can you post a picture so we know what plant you're talking about?

Are you sure they are the Torbay palms (cordyline Australis) I've given up with mine as I'm really good at killing themBlush
Otherwise cut them down at the base, and then do a crisscross over the stump, and they'll be gone....they have stunning, lightly scented flowers though.

Darn it - I name changed because I signed in on a different Google account so it won't let me add photos - I think because it's my first post. Hang on - I'll try on my other phone

@anunlikelyseahorse we did that and they just sprung up more and made a huge multistemmed plant instead (which you can now see all rotten and stinky).
@Pinkywoo photos here now. Thank you

I think it is a cordyline, best way to get rid of it would be to dig it up. Or you could cut off all the dead bits, wait til it perks up a bit and put it on Facebook market, buyer to dig up!

@Pinkywoo if only!!! We tried to get it out a couple of years ago and couldn't get down deep enough. Husband resorted to cutting it down, smashing the roots to smithereens with an axe and within a month or so it reappeared - bigger, wider and stronger. 😂Prior to that we got a 'gardener' in to remove them who ended up just chopping them down and back they came. We have three in the front garden and two in the back (not planted by us). They have been the bane of my life for the past 17 years. 😐

Then no idea! I keep losing them in the winter and planting more, house swap?!
