In my new vegetable patch. There is cardboard underneath the soil. They don't seem to have much root but quite honestly I don't want to touch them, it looks alien

Nooooo, try again!
I love plant ID threads.

Yes thank you, I DO have a wild and crazy life.

WilmaJean · 06/05/2023 22:23

Figrolls14 · 06/05/2023 22:34

Wispawispawispa · 06/05/2023 22:35

Krustykrabpizza · 07/05/2023 11:09

It just keeps saying fix above errors but there are no errors. It's a fungus of some sort but it's really disgusting

neverknowinglyunreasonable · 07/05/2023 11:32

Aliens. Move away from there as fast as possible. Alert the authorities.

davegrohll · 07/05/2023 11:33

Oh god that's minging 😆 yes to some sort of fungus ! Would plant id work on it ?

LegArmpits · 07/05/2023 11:34

Brain fungus.

Lonelycrab · 07/05/2023 11:36

Triffid roots. Nuke the site from orbit.

RaceToTheMiddle · 07/05/2023 11:36

The first picture looked like spaghetti hoops

Singleandproud · 07/05/2023 11:38

Possibly Bay Cup fungus, I believe its poisonous raw so be careful of pets and children.

BaronessBomburst · 07/05/2023 11:38

That's a pasta plant.
You'll be able to harvest your own spaghetti in September.

Weatherwaxing · 07/05/2023 11:39

I think it's a type of cup fungus. But alien spaghetti hoops is equally as likely.

Krustykrabpizza · 07/05/2023 11:50

It's definitely not spaghetti hoops. Weird thing is if you nudge them they don't seem to be attached to any root

I had this exact thing in my back yard under a load of cardboard I'd left out to take to the tip. It had been there's quite a few months and was all soggy as I'd not got round to taking it away, and it was growing underneath on the paving slabs and up the wall. Very gross!

NanTheWiser · 07/05/2023 12:24

It’s a cup fungus - quite common where you have used bark or similar to mulch.

inappropriateraspberry · 07/05/2023 12:27

Calamari - looks over cooked and rubbery though. Maybe you can grow some more from cuttings and harvest it when younger. 😉

I have a feeling it could be something to do with the cardboard

I’ve had this and have cardboard under compost in veg beds too. I rummaged it around once it dried out and it hasn’t come back.
