So I know weedkiller isn't a popular option, but we've got a ton of brambles, bindweed etc. at the bottom of our garden that we've sectioned off for the last year. Husband insists on weedkiller, and tbf he'd be the one doing most of the work digging it up so I say fair enough! But would it be okay to plant veg on it nearly a year later? I can't bear the thought of chemicals staying in the soil and getting into our food, so only want to do this if it will have disappeared by then! I don't know what weedkiller he has at the moment but it begins with g...

Thanks for any advice!

Your weedkiller will by glyphosphate based. It will be fine to plant vegetables a year later. The half life of glyphosphate in soil is around 40 days so any remnants will be long gone by the tme you plant anything.

You will struggle to get rid of brambles and bindweed though. Both are far easier to clear with some very thick gloves and a pair of shears. Even if the plants die the stalks will need to be cleared, especially the brambles as they will take years to rot away. Weedkiller is very good or clearing grass and other weeds which will rot away quickly but brambles wil grow back faster than you can spray. Best to clear those out by hand.

Thanks @Aaron95! I think the plan is to spray everything and then get a membrane on top, then manually clear and repeat. It's a huge area so I think we just need to try everything! I'll check the ingredients but it's reassuring to hear that it breaks down!
