I'm hoping to move soon and trying to get a head start on thinking about what to do with the fairly overgrown garden (it's been empty a while but was clearly well cared for before that)

Can anyone help identify this shrub/tree from this photo?

any in focus with pictures of the leaves?

Mocky · 07/04/2023 07:33

Does it have flowers, or fruit?

a close up of the leaves would help.

I might have to drive by and take some photos, I've only got estate agent photos.

I think it's an Amelanchier. They are lovely. If you drive by and I'm right it should have white flowers now.

Looks like my neighbours tree which is a cotoneaster cornubia.

I’m not sure of the scale but the leaves look too large for Amelanchier. It’s too dense too.I wondered about Sorbus aria or similar.

Are you thinking about 'doing something' with that tree? It seems, at the moment, to be a very effective privacy screen against the houses behind.
I wouldn't be in too much of a hurry to do anything yet; live with it awhile. It would only take a few hours to chop down but years to grow back to that height.

It's on the front of the property I'm buying, I need to see if it and the other large shrubs and trees block too much light from the front windows.

It might be blocking a certain amount of light, but it will also be giving privacy, and possibly blocking an unsightly view from the window, so take your time in deciding what to do with it.

Due to the size of it, you could be disturbing nesting birds which is an offence, so you would have to do the work once nesting season (Mar-Aug) is finished.

Yes, I drove past today and it's covered in white flowers and looks completely different.
