Newbie here (obvs). There was a frost this morning and expected to be the same overnight tonight but now it’s lovely and sunny. I wanted to mow the lawn today but I’m thinking it might be the wrong thing to do? Will I bugger it ?

As long as the grass is dry you can mow. Might be possible this afternoon.

As above. Make sure it's dry and don't cut it too short to begin with.

Thankyou

Hi @Elasticatedwaist , I was wondering the same thing - seems to be different depending on where you are in the UK? 🥴 When the grass starts growing again that's usually when I decide to mow!

First grass cut of the year UK

Knowing when the first grass cut of the year in the UK should be is important, and so is making sure you cut it right the first time!

My neighbour has been out mowing today - really nippy, verging on frosty this morning but sunny now. She mowed right into December too!

DH mowed our lawn today and our next door neighbour is currently doing theirs

Nooooo ! No Mow May - reward is an amazing abundance of natural flowering which looks beautiful. The insects benefit enormously. climate and your electricity bill all benefit . But if you can’t resist it depends on the weather in your area too wet for me.

I'll be leaving mine a few weeks yet

North Oxfordshire - done ours today - highest setting on the mower so it's not shorn right down but much tidier & will allow new shoots through. Have also edged the lawn & weeded the flower beds & veg beds - loving this spring warmth!

No way. The lawnmower will track mud everywhere as the top part of the soil is still wet. So until there are at least 2 days of warm weather to ensure its fully dry, I won't be cutting.

We leave part of our garden all summer. Once the bluebells die back I cut paths (which either a cat or a fox appear to create) and then the grass and flowers grow until the late summer. It’s beautiful.
