Planting out sweet peas - too early?

I just got some nice, big sweet pea seedlings from Sarah Raven. But we have frost forecast for 2 nights early next week.

Do you think it is too early to plant them outside?

It's frustrating as they have been grown in root trainers so if I pot them on for a couple of weeks I will need to use ginormous pots to get the depth and a lot of compost.

I've a feeling sweet pea might be quite hardy, after all people sow in autumn for the following year. That said, the new growth would be unlikely to survive the frost even if it doesn't kill the plant.

Too early - it's not that unusual to have snow over the next fortnight, even in London and the Southeast.

I've had some out all winter and they're doing well, but I guess there are different varieties.
When I planted my new honeysuckle shortly before frost, my mum told me to wrap around the base with bubble wrap or fleece and put a large pot over the top when the frost was due, take the pot off during the day. Worked well for that.

I wouldn't bother potting them on. They will be fine as they are for a few days, plant them out middle of the week after the frosts.

There may be a risk of frost after that but they are incredibly hardy, and they will be more established by then.

They aren't in any pots, just packaged in cardboard.

Plant them out, but protect them well with bubble wrap.

I planted my sweet pea seedlings out a couple of weeks ago because they were running out of room in their pots. I'm not sure they've grown much since being outside though.

What will be will be!

I've decided to pot them on and keep them in the poly tunnel for another week.

They were expensive (not grown from seed by me) and I don't want to risk it.

Mine are out but I grew them myself from seed, and they went out about a week ago. All ok so far. They are normally pretty hardy.

Finalstar I'd have planted them out a week ago as they would have had the milder weather to establish themselves. But I think with a run of cold nights ahead I'm probably better off waiting.
