Plant more grape hyacinths for next year. I have a some in a pot outside my window and the bees are queueing up to get at them. Have had a few in the borders before now but have never noticed before how bees love them.

They spread like weeds in my garden!
I try to control them, but they are too strong....

Do you want some of mine?

I do think bees noticiceably prefer blue and purple flowers.

Yes please!😁 Or perhaps I will just go out and speak to mine about reproduction , they should be OK, after all they’ve had the bee visits.

I have to dig them out by the bucketful, they spread everywhere. I leave lots for the bees but they would take over the entire garden given half a chance.

I have a pair of pots outside the front door atm with grape hyacinth and tête –à- tête. They are so cheerful to come home to.Smile

They don’t seem to like my garden much, but I planted up several pots last autumn. Even in the utterances appalling weather I can still hear the buzz of bees.

That sounds lovely. Must make a note to plant some pots up with this combination in the Autumn Wink

Do people for whom they spread have light soils? I planted hundreds in my lawn last autumn (heavy clay) and barely any have come up. The ones in pots are doing great though.

That's a good point. We have heavy clay too. The last garden was literally just clay when we moved in.

Can I see a pic?

Er, nope. Crazy heavy bane-of-my-life brick clay.

IceandIndigo · 30/03/2023 22:25

I have clay soil too and they spread like mad in my garden.

CatherinedeBourgh · 30/03/2023 22:40

Hmm, maybe they'll eventually come up? I hope so. My last garden was thin dust on chalk and they grew wild, so I was thinking they would prefer that.

Mine are in a three way battle with the forget me nots and dandelions for who gets the title of most successful border invader/land coloniser! Grin
