Tackling the garden for the first time in our new house. Have never seen it in spring/summer so I have no idea what anything in the borders looks like when it’s not dead looking and twig-like 🤣 I’m hoping within the next few weeks I’ll know what’s coming back and what’s not 😅

I am in no way a gardener. Help me with these that are everywhere - weed or not? 😅

I think it’s a sambucus black lace too. It’s looks just like mine, I got it nearly 2 years ago, so looking forward to it getting big.

If in doubt, don't pull it out. Wait and see. I have various weeds in my garden that are very pretty and the insects love them. I will dig up dandelions , bindweed, ground elder and creeping buttercup, though.

I think it could be Primula denticulata aka drumstick primrose! The flowering stem will produce a ball of purple flowers, lucky you!

this is correct

I was in your position last spring and summer OP and it was so exciting seeing what would pop up.

This year I'm just starting to think about what I might want to move about / cull / add.

I definitely second the posters who don't do too much weeding as well - my garden is full of violets, forget-me-nots, celandines and daisies which I leave well alone.

The only thing I'm brutal with is clumps of grass and spreading thugs which will take over (yes, I'm looking at you euphorbia)

My mother, on the other hand, is horrified that everything isn't trimmed and weeded to within an inch of its life - she's a very old school gardener!
