I thought it would be a nice idea to share what we've been up to in our gardens.

Today I planted potatoes in buckets (with drainage holes drilled into them.) Six buckets in total, three second earlies and three main crops. I have fond memories of digging up potatoes with my dad when I was a child.... I still get excited rummaging around in the buckets when my potatoes are ready!

I also made up a herb planter from an old plant pot that had been hiding behind the shed. Mint, parsley and thyme planted in that so I'll see how that does.

I fed my pot plants with blood, fish and bone and gave them a water.

What have you been up to?

Oh god so many typos, sorry. Hope you get the drift! Wish you could edit.

Ah, beautiful here today and I have just come in and put my feet up after a long morning in the garden.
weeded and re-composted the asparagus bed
moved a squished gooseberry bush away from a thriving rhubarb to give them both enough space
weeded a big raised bed
watered the greenhouse
planted seeds of broad beans, French beans and beetroot
helped DH clear ivy off a roof
washed algae off our gate ready for re painting
cleaned the greenhouse windows
made tea, veggie bacon and egg sandwiches

Ah how I adore spring 💐☀️💐☀️🪴

Hard pruned and tied back to a new fence the Rosa Glauca Elijah Blue. Set out a new retaining wall that will hopefully return what is currently a hedge slope back to a hedge bank. Moved some self sown foxgloves from the slope to the top of the bank. Pulled a load of Vinca from the slope.

Currently listening to blue tits doing some DIY in their nest box, sounds like the they're putting up shelves, I'll take it off their deposit if they do any damage.

Im watching it snow, on top of the 2 ft already on the ground (I’m in the US). It will be a good month before I can start doing anything useful outside..sigh.. I will live vicariously through all of your posts.

WobblyLondoner · 26/03/2023 14:20

Got out between the showers and divided an enormous alchemilla mollis - hope at least some of the bits survive (it was slapdash).

And indoors repotted an extremely potbound palm tree Blush

ilovesushi · 26/03/2023 16:20

Very little but very satisfying. Went to inspect my peonies inspired by another thread and did a bit of weeding. The ground is so wet everything came out very easily.

ThreeRingCircus · 26/03/2023 17:05

I watched a blackbird hopping round the garden and two robins on the birdfeeders.

It's been raining here again so I hid in the shed and sowed beetroot, swiss chard and cosmos seeds and put them in the mini greenhouse. I also sowed some bee bombs that DD1 got in a party bag in one of the pots outside.

I've now come inside out of the rain and have repotted two houseplants.

I’ve done very little today, but this week I’ve been weeding, removing the skeletons of plants which didn’t survive the winter and sowing seeds. Am going out now to check on the seed trays and will them into germinating!

meow1989 · 26/03/2023 17:13

Yesterday I:

Planted a couple of blueberry bushes (one we've had since last year and one new)
Potted a raspberry bush
Potted some strawberries
Potted some border plants
Hacked away at the bloody bamboo that came with the house - about 2 foot down, 10 to go! There's a lovely honeysuckle vine growing through it so hoping to save that with some bedded flowers growing below.

I've also sown some onion, carrot, tomato and leek seeds indoors along with a few apple pips that have sprouted so they can go out when they're bigger

megletthesecond · 26/03/2023 17:16

Planted lots of sunflower seeds in pots.

thatsn0tmyname · 26/03/2023 17:19

Mowed and edged the lawn, snipped/ chopped dead wood, tidied the honeysuckle around the nesting box so the great tits have a clear flight path and planted a new ornamental pear tree 🌸

Qqbank01 · 26/03/2023 20:31

Watering my previous plants and put my new roses root into pot.

Planned what I was going to do today (but haven't yet as it's tipping down!). Itching to get out and divide some alchemilla mollis (a la Monty). Do you need to divide? Doesn’t it seed everywhere ?

Mine doesn't, no idea why. I've a new bare patch that needs some cover, hence the desire to spread it around.

I chop mine out wherever I see them. Otherwise I'm overrun. It can be invasive in the wild too.

tapdancingmum · 26/03/2023 22:59

Beenn to the garden centre today.

Picked up some sweet peas that have now been planted into their pots but will stay in the greenhouse until June.

Picked up a new spider plant for indoors as my other one has just died on me 🫣

Picked up a couple of primulas, a dianthus, and some thyme. Some will go in the sinks I have, and I haven't decided where the others are going.

My greenhouse is going soon as I'm getting a potting shed, so I need to get the conservatory cleaned so I can move some plants into there before they go in the garden. That will be a job for the Easter holidays.

Yesterday I:

Planted gardenias, weeded, potted on my mock orange and tamarix, pruned the one buddleja I’d forgotten about, put up more willow screening for privacy and wind break, watered and gazed lovingly at my apple and crab apple trees, sowed Tansy, fennel, hyssop and gallium ordatum seeds to under plant those trees.
Also nearly gouged my eye out absent mindlessly bending over and not seeing a garden stake on a new plant!!! I’m very lucky I managed to stop moving just in time but have a very swollen and cut eye socket and eyelid so please be careful everyone!

Bloody hell. That has made me feel queasy, hope you're ok.

Winterlove · 27/03/2023 15:54

I’ve done some power washing of the paved areas today. Hoping the weed the flower beds and plant pots during the next dry day.

BestIsWest · 27/03/2023 17:13

I have got a terrible cold so haven’t done anything but I have wandered round the garden looking at things that need doing. I’ve got some house leeks and saxifrage to plant so I’ve been deciding where to put them.

Daftasabroom · 27/03/2023 17:51

Had a chat with the sweet peas, they're getting a bit leggy and need to chill out a bit. Ditto, but the opposite, some dahlia who basically seem like they can't be arsed.

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 27/03/2023 17:53

I too have some dahlias which need to shape up or ship out!

AlisonDonut · 27/03/2023 17:54

I've dug up and split a sarcococca. Half into a pot so that I can snort it every time I leave the house next winter. Dug up a pomegranate because it didn't survive the winter. Bought some Shiso seeds and soaked 20l of compacted coir to add into my potting mix for the next batch of pricing our seedlings.
