Can anyone ID the potentially poisonous succulent I just licked? (Pics)

It's got globs of see-through liquid on the flower stem. I wanted to know if they were sticky and randomly licked my finger Blush DH is convinced it's poisonous and I'm going to suffer, but we can't work out what it is. The closest I can find is an Aloe Variegated, which isn't recommended... Any ideas? He thinks we got it in IKEA ages ago.

Unsure but take a photo using Google search and it should identify it.

It would have to be incredibly toxic for you to get ill by licking a little bit off your finger. I would tell you it was a stupid thing to do but I do many stupider things every day, so I won't

Definitely not Sanseveria - the leaves on a Sanseveria (snake plant) come directly from the base which they don't seem to in your photo.

Or maybe I'm thinking of another sort of Sansevia (sorry - using phone and eyes not great!)

It looks like a sansevieria franciscii ... "mildly toxic" apparently. I don't think a single drop will do you much harm, but if you start to feel ill, maybe phone 111?

PolkaDotMankini · 15/03/2023 15:07

Thanks! It looks like a snake plant to me. It tasted quite sweet. No ill effects so far but DH will laugh at me if I do get any symptoms!

Agree with Squiblet, it is Sansevieria francisii, and they exude nectar, which is what you licked! I very much doubt it will affect you, but congratulations on getting it to flower, because that’s not easy!

I'm happy to share my advice: grow it in an old beer can on a sunny windowsill, never water it and generally neglect it in every way.

@PolkaDotMankini that’s obviously the best way to grow succulents, benign neglect! Far too many people pamper them too much, and wonder why they turn into mush!
