Does anyone's clematis have buds yet?

I planted a clematis Montana in Autumn and I'm not sure it's survived the winter.

It's supposed to flower in May, there's buds but they look brown like last years.

Does anyone have buds on their dead looking clematis this early on?

I have three in a planter, they’re the double flowered type and they always sprout from the bottom. Easy has about 4 strong shoots.
