Salvia planting question

This Salvia arrived today. Looks like it had a rough journey (Thompson & Morgan).

I read they are best planted in May. Can i plant ut in the ground now do you think. No frost forecast for rest of February bu there is often light frost in March. If not do you think it can stay in that pot for a month ir two? Sone jf the roots are exposed near the top where the pot was damaged.

Its just on my lawn in the sun now after being watered. Should i put it in the garage or house overnight if i dont plant i the ground yet?

Thanks

Hi - it looks absolutely fine so don't worry about it looking a little rough, it will settle down.

I would leave it in the pot until May to put some growth on and they love sun so definitely give it plenty during the day but personally I would bring it in overnight for a while to be on the safe side and prevent slugs/snails being tempted to have a nibble.

I wouldn't plant it out this early, a frost would see it off. Pop it in a greenhouse or a garage/shed near a window where it gets light but is protected from frost.
