Hi fellow gardeners
A newbie here
I have 2 bare root roses i was hoping to plant out into some large pots. They are currently stored in a plastic bag ( which they arrived in) in my shed
The weather hear is absolutely freezing in the SW but i am a bit concerned as they do need planting out
Should i plant them out or wait for the cold snap to pass?

If they're going into large pots, then just get them in. The soil will protect them, and it's not like you have to dig into frozen earth with them being in pots.

Get them soaking in water, sprinkle with mycorrhizal fungi for root growth and plant them. They could be kept in a garage or under cover for a few days, until the frost passes, but not necessary.

What bare roots have you got?! How exciting😊🌹

Go ahead and plant them OP. Traditionally you would “heel in” bare root roses when the conditions were too poor to plant them out, which basically meant making a slit in the earth with a spade and slipping the roots in to protect them.

If you are planting them in big pots make sure you use a proper mix of soil designed for roses. It’s usually called ‘rose and shrub’ compost. Don’t use multi purpose, it will dry out too easily and is a sod to get it to take up water again.

If it’s really cold and the pots are thin plastic, a bit of bubble wrap around them will help protect the roots.

They will be fine in the bags they came in, unopened for up to two weeks.

If you want to plant them temporarily into pots, that’s fine too. Don’t worry too much though, roses are very tough.

Thank you everyone for your advice and reassurance! I will get them in!

@CaptainMum the bare roots are common moss and remembrance. The others have all been potted, this is my first time dealing with bare roots, 😅
