I’m thinking of starting off some chillis. Even though I know that I’ll fill up the available window sills too soon….and will probably regret it.

Just Basil so far although I might do Chillis tomorrow.

Well it's taken a while but they've finally poked through!

I've never grown chillis before so I just might be disproportionally excited with my little seedling! Grin

I've got my chilli and tomato seeds ready - but if I start them now and can't leave them outside until May - not sure we have space to keep them inside that long. I did this once before, 3 years ago - and the living room ended up full of 3 foot tall plants. If you're starting your chillis now - when do you expect to put them outside or will you keep them in indefinitely?

I plan to sow tomatos in the next few days.
they will probably go out late april/early may depending on temperatures (very sheltered & sunny balcony)

I think I'll start the chillis this weekend - I put them in the airing cupboard to germinate. Then tomoatoes soon after.

Well I obviously haven't thought it through @Acinonyx2 🤦‍♀️Grin

I've just filled my conservatory with seeded pots, chillis, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, courgettes. It smells all loamy out there. 😊

I'll move them to the greenhouse (a bit cooler) when they're about 6" high. I love this time of year.

I'm chitting my potatoes in open egg cartons, out of direct sunlight. I have also planted 3 types of onion sets in individual cells to establish some roots and tops. And I have started a couple of long season seeds ie: melon and aubergine. But that's enough for the moment, until light levels and temperatures increase a little. I live in the South of England, and am hoping our summer isn't as hot, dry and crispy as last year was. I lost so many fruit and vegetable plants in the scorching heat alone 😔

Ah - how I long for a conservatory or greenhouse. I have a small cold frame, an airing cupboard and a couple of sunny windowsills (then mainly containers in a small garden). Dh is starting to look suspiciously at my seed packets. Last time he had a lot of repair work to do after I had used the bedroom windowsill as a greenhouse.

I did potatoes in bags one year and got just enough for a decent dinner - just doesn't feel worth it. Chillis and tomatoes I seem to have a knack for - but onions, carrots - hopeless. Anything tasty like basil has to be in the cold frame or it's eaten immediately by 'visitors'.
