Hydrangea help- can I grow a cutting now?

Please help a total novice!
My wonderful grandad passed away a month ago, in his garden he had a massive hydrangea plant which is my favourite flower. I even used the flowers from it at my wedding.
We have to give the keys to his house in in two weeks time.
Is there any way I can get a cutting from the plant grow now? I was going to employ a gardener to move it to our garden but the ground has been frozen for days and with Christmas so soon, I don’t think it is gong to happen.
I really do not have the first clue and would really appreciate some ideas.

I think it’s a bit late, but not taking a cutting gives you no chance at all.

Do you own or are you renting? If you own and have excluded it from the sale, perhaps you could get agreement to move it later? Either way, could you get agreement to take some cuttings next year. Otherwise, take a seedhead and press some leaves as a memento, then buy yourself one the same.

moving a big plant has no guarantee of success, so if you were doing that, I’d advise taking cuttings as well

Apparently, you can still grow from cuttings - hardwood cuttings.

Google hydrangea cuttings and the instructions will be there.

Yes! Cut some stems with buds (little green buds), dip in rooting hormone and then place in a pot of compost. Place in bright light. They should take.

Easier to do them in summer but they do well from cuttings. Good luck

Thank you all so much for taking the time to reply.
I will go up Sunday and take some cuttings. I love the idea of taking a pressing too.

fingers crossed!
