Identify my plant!

Does anyone know what this is? I got it a while ago and forgotten. It's thrived here and is getting too big. I'm wondering where else to put it in my pretty dark house. Could it possibly ho outside?

It looks like either a cactus or one of the decorative aloes. Does it ever flower?

Have you tried the app Picture this? Or Google search the image.

Exasperatednow · 03/11/2022 10:48

CourtAppointedHairdresser it's never flowered. I've managed to root a cutting by taking off one of the side branches. It is a bit spiky.

Bluelightfairy that's a good idea.

Plants that look like this need really good drainage eg sandy soil. I put an aloe vera houseplant out last year and it’s still alive.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euphorbia_trigona

Found it! It looks like it can withstand some cold. It's nearly touching the ceiling so it might have to go out! I might take another careful cutting (apparently latex!) .

African milk tree

RinklyRomaine · 03/11/2022 11:09

Yes African Milk Tree. I have a red one. Toxic to pets and if you cut it keep the sap off your skin, it's an irritant. Yours is lovely!

NanTheWiser · 03/11/2022 11:38

Yes, it’s Euphorbia trigona. Definitely NOT hardy, as it’s native to West Africa, so needs to be kept a bit warm over winter. As you already know, the sap is toxic and an irritant, so if you cut it, wear gloves and mind your eyes.

Thank you everyone. I might have somewhere else to put it until it grows again. If it gets too big I might have to rehome it.

You can chop the tops off to propagate and keep it shorter. And give them to me 😂

Exasperatednow · 03/11/2022 14:04

😀. Is that possible? Will it look odd?

It'll heal and I'd be pained to give such a beauty away whole.

Exasperatednow · 03/11/2022 18:37

I might be giving away the plant in bits and my aloe Vera which is particularly fecund.
