We're finally getting a new shed! I have a vision of how I want to furnish it, but can't work out how to achieve this.

The shed will be 6' x 10', door in a short end, windows down one long side. I envision a deep shelf at waist height across the end opposite the door, with a shallow shelf above, and long, shallow shelves running the full length of the window-less wall at the same heights as the end wall shelves.

The wide end wall shelf would be for power tools that do not stand on the floor (eg hedge trimmer) and would all be the battery charging area. Floor-standing power tools (eg lawn mower, chipper) would be parked under the end shelf.

The shallower shelves would be for general shed storage (eg pots, seeds, chemicals etc). There would be a mobile tool rack parked under the windows and a peg board system between windows and door to hang small hand tools. The space under the shelves on the long wall would be for wellies and toys.

(Can you tell I'm excited, and have possibly over-planned this? Grin)

I want shelves like in the picture, but I'm not sure how the 2" x 2" framework would take the strain after years of cluttered shelves.

The shelves will be cluttered, filled, rammed, loaded, within a couple of years, after which nothing will change. I know myself.

Thoughts? Ideas? Inspiration?

You might get better responses posting this in the gardening section.

I think a rack for holding long-handled tools would be useful - see GW

Good idea. I'll ask for the thread to be moved.

I would have a rack like that along the wall opposite to the shelves, but dh wants windows in that wall, and I don't want to sacrifice the shelves.

Is this a better solution, to fit below the shelves (presuming they are high enough).

senua · 28/10/2022 12:17

Ooops, that's where wellies and toys go, isn't it?
Can you tell that I am frustrated by the long-handled tools in my shed.Grin They are in a huddle on the floor and the one I want is always the one at the back!

Long tools, ohhh yes. Currently our long-handled tools are stacked in the far corner of our shed, kept in place by a folded sun-lounger on its side. The tallest tool, a tree-pruning thing, may actually be propping up the roof of the shed.

No picture but both sheds (garden and allotment) have shed hooks attached to a baton that runs down one side of the shed. The hooks are for hanging all the long tools in.

The other side has a couple of shelves for small pots and tools.

Hooks on the inside of the door for also hanging things like trowels.

Sounds lovely.

I have an over the phone door shoe holder with transparent pockets for all the small bits and pieces that accumulate out of nowhere.

Dilbertian · 29/10/2022 08:22

Another good idea, thanks!

Errm, should I post this picture? It is a bit outing. Oh well. Ours has tonnes of stuff shit in it.
Blue box right, tools, shoe polishing stuff. Above, shelves of screws. Clothes pegs, secateurs and rose spray. Bottom right Drinks. On top of fridge medical supplies. Ds2 builders red pot for football boots. Bbq stuff, wok, silver trays. Outside plates and cutlery. Cocktail maker, wine glasses, spare bottles of spirits.

Show me your shed, please?

Wow that's well organised!

What are the blue boxes? Drawers? Plastic?
